- Previous experience playing and/or coaching Basketball at the high school level or higher
- First Aid & CPR certification
- Maine Department of Education valid fingerprinting and CHRC approval
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Principles Certification
- NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Certification
- NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certification
- NFHS Concussion in Sport Certification
- NFHS COVID-19 Certification
- NFHS Protecting Students from Abuse
- Other certifications and trainings as deemed necessary by the Department, Board, or Maine Principals Association
Reports To: The athletic administrator and the department of athletics, who provides overall objectives, direction, and final evaluation.
Job Description: To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The instruction aims to foster moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Ensure and provide the safest possible competitive and educational environment for all student-athletes involved. Assist in the overall development of the Scarborough Basketball program as assigned by the Department of Athletics.
Duties:
- Abide by the Scarborough High School Athletic Department Coaches Handbook
- Abide by all Maine Principals Association rules and regulations
- Follow and implement all rules and policies within the school & athletic handbooks
- Help Head coach with equipment inventory & management
- Communicate travel arrangements & schedules with Athletic Department staff as needed
- Implement the school athletic Code of Conduct
- Ensure roster and student compliance with Athletic Director's office
- Ensure athletic participation fee payment by athletes in conjunction with the AD's office
- Distribute team rosters, contest schedules, and location information to players and parents
- Communicate effectively with students and parents as per the SHS communication guide
- Monitor athlete attendance, behavior, and academic status as communicated by the athletic department
- Report all student-athlete injuries to the Athletic Trainer and/or athletic office
- Attend all school Athletic Department meetings as assigned by the Athletic Director
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and the Head Coach
