The Clinical Educator role is a brand new, full-time, 12-month fixed term post. Fantastic secondment opportunity.

Are you passionate about improving healthcare for Autistic people and people who have a learning disability? Do you want to be part of our friendly and dynamic team?We are seeking an enthusiastic practitioner (registered nurse / learning disability nurse / professionally registered AHP or equivalent) to join our hospital-based learning disability and autism liaison team in a Clinical Educator role.

We are looking for someone with a keen interest, relevant knowledge and experience who is an excellent communicator and is ready to take on a training role.

You will have opportunities to support important service development initiatives through delivering education and training for the workforce.

The Learning Disability and Autism Acute Liaison Team are committed to reducing health inequalities through facilitating and promoting high quality, holistic healthcare for people who have a learning disability and/or autism.

We promote and support a person-centred experience of healthcare services for our patients who have a learning disability and/or autism across the acute hospitals in the Trust.

In conjunction with the experienced liaison team, you will support Learning disability and Autism education and training across STSFT staff. You will share good practice, promote Learning disability & Autism pathways, develop and deliver bespoke packages of training to ward staff.

Main duties of the job

The role involves working in partnership with a variety of teams both within and outside of the Trust.

You will play a part in shaping the mandatory Learning Disability and Autism workforce training across the trust. Working with experts by experience to co-develop content is a key part of this role.

To work within the acute Trust to provide education and training on the needs of people who have a learning disability and/or autism when they are accessing acute settings.

To develop training packages suitable for a range of professional groups.

To deliver training in several different ways according to the needs of the workforce.

To work with ward managers and departmental managers to raise awareness of pathways and policies to facilitate equitable access to healthcare for this population group.

To promote the need for reasonable adjustments for this patient group across the acute trust, to assess individuals needs for person-centred reasonable adjustments and provide guidance and education to facilitate these.

To be an expert practitioner who can support colleagues and acute hospital staff to meet the additional needs of our patients in innovative ways.

The post holder will work within the hospital-based learning disability and autism liaison team to develop the knowledge of the workforce within the Trust.
