MERITUS Talent are working with one of Europe's leading defence manufacturers for the recruitment of an Equipment Proving Engineer to join their Stevenage office on a 12-month contract, paying £75 per hour. The role will require someone to undergo SC Clearance prior to starting, as well as a full-time on-site presence.
About the Role
We're looking for an Equipment Proving Engineer to join a forward-thinking RF engineering team, working on cutting-edge technology that's new to the business. You'll help prove that our RF modules work exactly as intended before they're released for real-world use. This is a hands-on, lab-based role where you'll design test approaches, build test setups, write code to automate testing, and work closely with engineers across systems, software, hardware, and firmware. You'll also help develop and improve how we test and validate equipment, using both existing tools and new ideas.
What You'll Be Doing
- Working with systems and RF engineers to understand what the equipment is supposed to do
- Designing and developing automated test approaches (mainly in MATLAB or similar)
- Building and setting up custom test rigs using lab equipment and programming tools
- Running test activities in a lab to verify equipment performance and functions
- Analysing test data to identify issues and working with teams to resolve them
- Creating clear, accurate technical documentation to support verification evidence
- Taking part in design reviews and providing insight based on test findings
- Suggesting improvements to test methods, tools, and processes
- Supporting the design and development of equipment through ongoing collaboration
What You'll Need
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience writing structured test code using MATLAB, Simulink, or similar
- Comfortable building lab-based test setups using RF equipment and automated tools
- Ability to understand and interpret technical equipment requirements
- Experience injecting synthetic signals/data to test equipment responses
- Strong documentation and communication skills (MS Office, diagrams, test plans, etc.)
Desirable (or Learn-on-the-Job) Experience
- Hands-on use of RF test equipment (e.g. signal generators, spectrum analysers)
- Understanding of interface control documents and signal specifications
- Experience testing integrated systems with multiple equipment modules
- Environmental testing (e.g. thermal, EMC)
- Ability to read schematics, circuit diagrams, and system-level drawings
- Familiarity with tools like SAP, Jira, Windchill/PLM, DOORS, or Rhapsody
- Awareness of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), including requirements modelling and simulation
