A leading, fully integrated energy infrastructure business is on a mission to drive the UK’s transition to net zero and is seeking an Energy Trading Risk & Compliance Manager. With a portfolio that includes smart meters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and EV charge points, they provide complete energy solutions underpinned by engineering excellence, funding capability, and advanced technology and data expertise. This business is a key market player in UK energy trading, operating a sophisticated in-house trading function.

The Energy Trading Risk & Compliance Manager will play a crucial role in supporting trading operations, managing risk, and ensuring compliance across a dynamic and growing energy portfolio. Reporting to the Trading Director, this position spans operational oversight, strategic input, and the development of governance frameworks to support ongoing growth. This is a client-facing, hands-on role suited to an individual with deep industry knowledge, a commercial mindset, and strong leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Management
  • Implement and enhance operational risk management frameworks
  • Oversee internal trading controls, reporting, and monitoring systems
  • Ensure robust operational processes are in place
  • Compliance
    • Develop and maintain governance frameworks and internal policies
    • Ensure compliance with all external regulations and internal standards
    • Support project setup and oversee personnel competency processes
  • Operational Management
    • Manage processes with Elexon, trading exchanges (EPEX Spot, N2EX), and OTC trading parties
    • Lead regulatory reporting, change management, and performance analysis
    • Liaise with NESO and coordinate industry reporting activities
    • Provide support across new project development and market entry initiatives

    What They’re Looking For:

    • A high-calibre graduate with a proven academic track record
    • Industry experience and in-depth knowledge of energy trading, regulation, and risk management
    • Hands-on experience with governance frameworks and trading operations
    • Strong understanding of the following will be advantageous: Capacity Market, Elexon, National Grid/NESO, EPEX/N2EX, EFET/GTMA, REMIT, EMR, Settlements, Credit
    • Background in commercial shift operations and leading cross-functional projects
    • Skilled in interpreting data to drive decision-making and optimise trading performance
