As a Van Driver / Yard Operative, you will split your time between delivering products to our valued customers and working alongside the team in the yard to help ensure smooth branch operations. Main Responsibilities – Van Driver and Yard Operative Job Duties
- Safely and efficiently deliver building materials and timber products to customers, ensuring professional and timely service on each delivery run.
- Perform daily vehicle checks, maintain cleanliness and report any defects promptly in line with company policies.
- Assist with serving customers in the yard, preparing orders for collection or delivery, and loading/unloading customer vehicles.
- Support in maintaining high standards of tidiness, health and safety, and organisation throughout the yard and warehouse.
- Operate forklift trucks and other machinery when required (training will be provided if necessary).
- Comply with all company procedures and health & safety regulations at all times.
- Help monitor stock levels and participate in regular stock takes.
- Work collaboratively with branch colleagues to deliver excellent customer service and support the branch's continued growth.
Ideal Candidate Profile – Van Driver / Yard Operative Skills and Experience
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
- Previous experience in a driving, delivery, or yard-based operational role (essential)
- Physical fitness and ability to handle manual tasks, including lifting and moving products safely
- A strong safety awareness and commitment to best practice in all aspects of work
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Clear communication skills with a courteous and professional approach to customers and colleagues
- Basic numeracy and attention to detail when preparing orders or handling stock
- Positive attitude, proactive, and willingness to learn new skills
- FLT (Forklift Licence) is advantageous, but training will be provided
- A commitment to upholding our culture, values, and high standards of customer service
Working Hours – AVS Henfield Delivery Driver / Yard Operative
The standard hours for this role are Monday to Friday 07:30 - 17:00, with every other Saturday 08:00 - 12:00, totalling 44.5 hours per week.
Location – AVS Henfield
Brookfields Farm, Henfield, BN5 9TL.
