Job Description: Director of Sports Performance / Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Department: Division of Athletics Job Summary The Director of Strength and Conditioning will report to the Vice President/Director of Athletics. Responsibilities include, developing, instructing, and monitoring performance training of all 23 varsity athletic teams in collaboration with each head coach, instructing proper resistance training exercises technique and speed development, dynamic warm-ups, flexibility routines, testing and evaluating physical performance, collaboration with athletic trainers with rehabilitation of student-athletes, and overseeing operation of the weight room in the Nichols College Athletics Center. This is an 11-month exempt position with benefits. CPR/ AED & First Aid required. Knowledge, Skills And Education Required A bachelor’s degree is required plus SCCC or CSCS certification. Two years’ experience is required involving assisting in the development and management of sport-specific individual and team performance training programs. Must possess effective communication skills and the ability to work with various schedules throughout the school year. Candidates shall have a genuine understanding and commitment to the NCAA DIII philosophy as well as strong leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to work with all constituencies of the campus. The coordinator should be familiar with Conference, Region, and National NCAA Division III rules and regulations. Duties And Responsibilities Develops, instructs, coaches, and monitors performance training of all 23 varsity athletic teams in collaboration with each head coach. Oversees the operation of the weight room in the Nichols College Athletics Center. Designs training programs to maximize physical performance by using various training methods and modes. Instructs proper resistance training exercises to be specific to individual needs. Teaches technique and speed development. Prepares dynamic warm-ups, flexibility routines, and testing mechanisms. Evaluates physical performance. Collaborates with athletic trainers with the rehabilitation of student-athletes. Foresees potential risks of injury and takes preventative measures. Establishes policies and procedures for trainees to facilitate the day-to-day operation of the strength and conditioning complex by developing written staff procedures. Administers basic life support and other appropriate first-aid procedures to individuals in need of immediate care to sustain life and/or reduce the extent of injury and pain, as specified by the American Red Cross. Demonstrates equipment maintenance skills in order to provide a safe training environment for individuals. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor. Accept all duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the A.D., administrative staff and athletics department. Physical Job Components Ability to demonstrate varied techniques and exercises to student athletes. Light to heavy lifting Able to communicate orally, in writing, and use office and telecommunication equipment.
