About the Role:

The Associate Director, Commodities is responsible for driving growth and opportunities for the Commodities Index business as well as supporting the Commodities and Real Assets Product Management team in achieving the goal of ensuring the commercial success of commodity indices.

The Team:

Focused on developing solutions for a broad range of clients, the Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities team is responsible for the P&L of outcome-oriented index solutions such as commodities (GSCI), real assets, iBoxx, bond indices, CDS indices, and alternatives. This is an exciting opportunity to join a product team in a growth stage.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Identify and drive commercial growth opportunities for S&P DJI's Commodities and Real Assets Index business through understanding of client demand and the broader competitive landscape.
  • Support the Commodity Product Management team in channel and pricing policy, product design and delivery, and sales and marketing strategy for all commodity and real asset indices.
  • Interface with other groups at S&P in conjunction with the Commodity product manager to cooperatively develop and commercialize commodity and real asset indices.
  • Deep involvement in technical aspects of product design by working closely with the Development, Technology and Research & Design teams.
  • Develop research and presentation materials, including pitch books for client presentations.
  • Serve as the fixed income subject matter expert for client coverage, marketing and key clients.
  • Work with Operations to ensure that S&P meets launch deadlines and ongoing service levels required for the success of the commodity business.
  • Work with Sales, Marketing, and Channel teams to support all commodity and real asset indices.
  • Author and vet materials as needed.
  • Support of sales efforts via technical expertise, higher level discussions, industry conferences etc.
  • Work with Product Development/Research and Design to source, vet and commercialize new product ideas from the marketplace and existing clients.
  • Thought leadership and speaking engagements in the form of blog posts, webinars, conferences and white papers for relevant market topics and commodities specifically.

Functional and Business Knowledge:

  • 5 years plus of product development, trading or investment analysis of commodity markets experience in any of the following settings: investment banking, asset management, brokerage, or an index firm.
  • 2 years plus of commodity or real asset experience is desirable, either in indexing, investing, trading, analysis, data, or portfolio management.
  • Actual operating knowledge of specific commodity and real asset indices is desirable.
  • Must possess strong conceptualizing and logic skills; quantitative analysis skills essential.
  • Must be comfortable in a sales-like environment and be able to effectively communicate with third parties including clients, alliance partners, vendors and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as part of a team; can effectively influence others and gain their consensus when needed.
  • Ability to liaise with the technical group and understand a product's technical aspects.
  • Demonstrated market research, business plan writing, competitive intelligence, and information gathering skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle steep learning curves; very comfortable dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Demonstrated ability to be resourceful; able to get things done with limited resources under tight time frames.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of financial market applications (FactSet, Refinitiv Eikon, Bloomberg), database, data intelligence software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI) and a power user of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Works well independently and in a team environment.
  • BA/BS in Finance, Economics or Accounting preferred, CFA a plus.
