Reports to the Supervisor of Ophthalmic Technicians. Under general supervision, assists with daily patient care and clinic flow. Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Callahan Eye Hospital Clinic (CEHC) on an internal and external basis.
Responsibilities
- Take medical histories and verify information
- Perform visual function and diagnostic tests, such as applanation tonometry, refraction, and retinoscopy
- Utilize tools such as a Humphrey field analyzer and OCT to take eye measurements
- Inform ophthalmologist about changes to a patient's visual acuity and other vision issues
- Dilate eyes to prepare patients for their eye exam
- Explain how to properly use eye drops or other medications
- Explain how to properly use contact lenses
- Assist with inventory management
- * Must be able to travel between hospital and satellite clinics as needed
Qualifications
- Requires good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and the public
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to collect data and maintain accurate records
- Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on various types of medical/testing/office equipment
- Requires working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications
- Knowledge of A-Scans, fundus photos, nerve fiber analysis, and fluorescein angiography
- Ability to work with others to meet the needs of CEHC in accomplishing practice goals
