Primary role of this position will be responsible for supervising Anatomic Pathology activities under the direction of the CNE Anatomic Pathology (AP) Manager and to assist the daily operations of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all Anatomic Pathology lab activities under the direction and guidance of the Anatomic Pathology Management.
  • Review and sign off on quality control records, including temperature and instrument maintenance logs, CAP comparisons and department statistics as applicable and according to CAP and Joint Commission standards.
  • Provide training and competency assessments for personnel and new hires.
  • Assist in selection, evaluation and verification and validation of instrumentation and reagents.
  • Develop procedures for testing and review of current procedures under the direction of the CNE AP Manager.
  • Create schedules and evaluate staffing needs for sick, vacation and LOA’s.
  • Oversee the procurement, preparation, and analysis of patient specimens according to established procedures.
  • Oversee and troubleshoot issues with AP instrumentation. Review calibration, maintenance, quality assurance records.
  • Evaluate test results for accuracy, reportability and clinical significance and report variances accordingly.
  • Oversee the department inventory of supplies and manage to budget.
  • Maintain current knowledge of specialty by attending seminars, in-services and reading journals.
  • Evaluate new methodologies and instrumentation under the guidance of the CNE AP Manager and report findings and recommendations.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science required, masters preferred.
  • Certification as a Cytotechnologist, CT (ASCP) required.
  • Minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required.
