Job overview

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to offer opportunities for experienced Healthcare Assistants for Bodmin CATU/SDEC Unit. Bodmin Community Assessment and Treatment Unit has 22 beds. These provide hospital care for elderly patients and people who need rehabilitation after surgery or an illness. The unit has a day case bed for when people do not need an overnight stay. Same day emergency care (SDEC) is one of the many ways the NHS is working to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time for patients. It aims to benefit both patients and the healthcare system by reducing waiting times and hospital admissions, where appropriate.

Full time, permanent contract undertaking a range of night duties 19:30-08:00 hrs and long days 07:30 - 20:00 hrs on a rotational basis in order to support 24 hour nursing care, 7 days per week.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the delivery of clinical care, planned and assessed by the Registered Nurses.
  • To carry out care / other duties under indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Senior Health Care Assistant.
  • Support care on a day-to-day basis for all patients in the clinical area in a manner sensitive to the individual clients needs and wishes, acknowledging their rights and beliefs at all times.
  • Contribute to resource management within the clinical area.

Education & Qualification

  • Essential criteria: NVQ 2 in Health Care, or Equivalent. Clinical skills eg venepuncture, blood transfusion, aseptic non touch technique.
  • Desirable criteria: NVQ 3 in Direct Care.

Experience, Skills & Aptitude

  • Essential criteria: Previous hospital experience. Adaptability to cope with changing workload. Able to competently organise and carry out designated workload within scope of previous training.
