As a driver, you are acting as an ambassador for the company; the way you drive and how you behave are the subject of scrutiny by our customers and members of the public. The company expects the highest standards of driving and behaviour at all times. Drivers are expected to treat the vehicles they drive with the utmost care; ensuring roadworthiness and standards regarding hygiene are always met. Drivers are expected to embrace opportunities to continue their personal development and to enhance their driving skills.
HGV Driver Key Duties
- Comply with all applicable driving, road traffic and vehicle regulations whilst driving for the company.
- Drive with utmost professionalism, courtesy and safety at all times, avoiding damage to company vehicles and property.
- Maintain record and abide by all compliance regulations, including but not limited to Working Time Directive. Notify the Transport Office team of any driving infringements or endorsements issued against you whilst employed by the company.
- Perform daily walk around checks and report any defects or issues to a member of the Leadership team without delay.
- Ensure the vehicle is in a hygienic condition at all times.
- Ensure the vehicle has been loaded safely and handle all products appropriately.
Warehouse/Shunting:
- Loading & unloading of vehicles.
- Managing customer returns.
- Vehicles shunter checks and highlighting unreported damage.
- Fridge unit check to make sure running and set to right temperature.
- Temperature Monitoring.
- Minor vehicle repairs i.e. changing bulbs, changing wing mirrors.
- Cleaning the vehicles.
- Refuelling vehicles when needed.
Customer Service:
- Always present yourself professionally and wear the appropriate company-issued uniform in a clean and damage-free condition.
- Always act in a professional, courteous manner when dealing with customers and handle any queries they have efficiently.
- Maintain all records in accordance with the company's current operating procedures and operating instructions.
- Manage cash and cheques accurately and safely in accordance with current company procedures, accounting for all cash received from customers and being personally responsible for any discrepancies between collected cash and deposited cash.
Key Skills:
- HGV Category 'C+E' driving licence entitlement and experience.
- Driver CPC & Digi Tacho cards.
- Confidence to operate vehicle and perform delivery duties (duties are physical and of moderate to high intensity).
- Trustworthy.
- Numerate.
- Good written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills: dealing with customers, handling conflict.
- Good decision maker.
- Effective communicator: keeps people informed of decisions and outcomes.
You will be working any 5 from 6 days, based on 40 hours per week, however often exceeded through busy periods. Overtime is available which will be paid at basic hourly rate. Peak periods usually around events, such as Valentines, Mother’s Day, Summer time and the lead up to Christmas, usually plenty of opportunity for overtime.
Other benefits include 29 days holidays (inclusive of Bank holidays which is 232 hours annual. If start mid-year this would be pro-rata’d), Company store login to purchase our products at discounted prices, Pension Scheme, Cycle to work scheme, to name a few.
With the basic hourly rate, you will earn £35,700, but with overtime you can be earning in excess of £45k per year.
