Northcroft School is seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and imaginative Science classroom practitioner who understands that students take individual and multiple pathways in their learning and is committed to doing the best by the young people that they work with. We are seeking someone who knows or is willing to gain knowledge of the KS2 curriculum and how this supports progression to Key Stage 3, likewise for KS3 and how this supports progress into KS4 ensuring that gaps in prior learning can be closed.

Northcroft School seeks teachers who, when needed, can adapt the curriculum to deliver a primary approach to Key Stage 3 learners, all of which is supported by a dedicated team and West Berkshire Local Authority. It will be crucial to have the ability to work collaboratively with Amegreen Education's Primary School in contributing to the development of the Science curriculum, fostering critical thinking, analysis, evaluation, and creative skills.

Students attending Northcroft School thrive from a dedicated enrichment curriculum which will run alongside the science curriculum, offering students access to firsthand experience and exposing them to environments which they may not have previously been able to access. Part of the Science teacher's role will be to support non-specialist teachers in identifying missed prior learning for some students and ensuring that a plan of how to expose students to this knowledge, while teaching an age-appropriate curriculum, can skilfully be offered.

For students in KS3, the national curriculum will be delivered through the Oak Academy Scheme after which they will progress onto a GCSE through the AQA scheme. For students with low-level attainment, standalone certifications will be offered.

Northcroft School is a specialist school for learners who have multiple needs such as social, emotional and mental health needs, past trauma, ASD and ADHD. We are proud of the high expectations and aspirations we set for every child and young person, providing an inspiring environment where everyone can learn and achieve. We provide ambitious and exciting opportunities through well-designed and individualised curriculum packages. You will be part of a highly effective, supportive team who readily share best practice amongst the team.

  • Benefits including funded counselling, physiotherapy and GP and other medical support.
  • As a school in Amegreen Education and West Berkshire, teachers have opportunities to engage with staff across the local authority and the partnership school to support and collaborate with peers and colleagues in sharing expertise across both schools.

Essential requirements:

  • Good honours degree in subject and QTS.
  • Able to teach KS3 and KS4 effectively in subject area, with a sound knowledge and understanding of current curriculum developments.
