At NBI Games, we are more than consultants; we are embedded partners, behavioral scientists, game developers, and strategists who have helped shape some of the most iconic titles in the industry. Our mission is clear: to help great studios create unforgettable experiences through data-driven insights, grounded in a deep understanding of players. We integrate seamlessly into partner studios, bringing clarity, cohesion, and actionable guidance across the full game lifecycle, from concept to launch to live ops. Our UX research isn’t siloed; it’s strategic, contextualized, and directly connected to product success.

As a Senior Data Engineer at NBI Games, you will be a key player in the development and maintenance of our data platform. This role is critical to ensure that gameplay data, telemetry, and analytics pipelines are reliable, scalable, and robust. You’ll work cross-functionally with analysts, data scientists, and game teams to support infrastructure that powers insights for game tuning, live ops, and player behaviour understanding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and optimize scalable data pipelines and infrastructure
  • Develop batch and real-time data processing systems for analytics and telemetry
  • Create software and tooling necessary to build automated deployment pipelines
  • Support containerization and orchestration of data services using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data needs and define engineering solutions
  • Develop and enforce data governance, quality, and security standards
  • Work with external teams and contractors to deliver reliable, production-grade systems
  • Drive innovation in tools and processes across the data engineering team
  • Mentor junior engineers and set a high bar for coding and architecture standards
  • Contribute to architectural decisions that align with long-term platform growth
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering with a focus on high-scale systems (video game studio experience strongly preferred)
  • Deep proficiency in Python and experience with container systems (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Proven experience with AWS services (Lambda, S3, EMR, DynamoDB)
  • Hands-on experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Snowflake, and Vertica
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworks
  • Ability to work in agile, fast-paced environments and lead technical projects
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • A gamer mindset: curious, creative, and passionate about game development
  • Demonstrate professional behaviour and maintain a strong work ethic
  • Work collaboratively across departments and with external partners when needed
  • Exhibit flexibility and adaptability to evolving project and team needs
Bonus Points
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading project initiatives
  • Ability to translate business requirements into data architecture
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and backlog grooming for data teams
  • Comfort working across product, analytics, and engineering teams

We’re redefining what user research looks like in game development. At NBI, we unify research, telemetry, and behavioural science to drive faster, deeper insights. We embed directly with clients to deliver value where it matters most, creating research systems that scale with studios, enabling long-term growth and learning. We prioritise clarity, empathy, and action, not just reports. You’ll work alongside veterans of Blizzard, Xbox, Ubisoft, EA, and more, on projects that shape the future of interactive entertainment. Our partners value not just our methods, but our mindset: one of rigor, trust, and relentless player focus.
