A little more about your role… As our Environmental Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the successful implementation and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS). This position focuses on ensuring environmental management practices are effectively communicated and integrated into our operations for premises and project delivery. Collaboration with our ESG and Carbon Management teams is key to align our efforts with broader corporate sustainability goals.

  • Drive a consistent approach to environmental management across the business by raising awareness and building relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an EMS across the business, focusing on compliance with legislation, regulations, and WSP Global HSEQ requirements, and collaborate with the ESG team on connections with the Carbon Management Process.
  • Reduce environmental risks and identify opportunities for improvement related to premises, projects, and people through behavioural change and innovative solutions.
  • Provide oversight and support for environmental management within the business.
  • Engage with Office Environmental Champions and support collaboration on environmental, social, and sustainability issues.
  • Assist business disciplines in identifying and assessing project environmental risks and compliance obligations.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure best practices in environmental management are followed.
  • Set targets and objectives to achieve environmental goals, including waste reduction, incident management, and risk mitigation.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance and KPIs.
  • Manage environmental incidents, investigations, and lessons learned.
  • Promote environmental management through communication, engagement, initiatives, and training.
  • Conduct internal environmental audits of projects, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Participate in global and regional HSEQ groups and drive continual improvement through the HSEQ Excellence Program.
  • Support governance aligned with ISO 20400 for sustainable procurement and develop environmental documentation for bids and tenders.

What we are looking for you to demonstrate… Proven experience in environmental management, ideally within engineering, construction, civils, consultancy, or related sectors. Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance, risk mitigation, and EMS standards like ISO 14001. Degree in environmental management or related field; professional membership (IEMA, CIWEM, CIEEM) preferred. Excellent communication skills to engage stakeholders at all levels. Ability to work under pressure and manage sensitive information professionally. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines. A passion for the environment and a desire to lead our environmental agenda.
