Havering Adult College is looking to recruit a Sessional Teacher for Teaching Assistants/Early Years at our centres. The role includes teaching at Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 on Early Years/Teaching Assistant courses. Exact course dates/times can be negotiated but generally take place during the daytime or evening.

You will prepare and deliver teaching and learning that meets the individual needs of the learners and help them develop their skills, knowledge, and understanding. You will assess and provide meaningful and developmental feedback to learners as required. You will deliver Pre-Course Interviews to ensure learners are enrolled in the right class at the right level. You will ensure assessment records are kept up-to-date and targets are met. You must have the ability to take initiative and the ability to research, produce, and use teaching resources to maintain high standards of learning in different environments, including the use of e-learning, which is essential. It is also essential that you have a desire to develop and use new methods of teaching and learning to engage and motivate your learners.

Successful candidates will have an understanding of Equality and Diversity and an appreciation of the requirements of teachers under the Safeguarding of Children & Vulnerable Adults regulations. Successful applicants will be responsible for their own travel to and from the delivery centres.

The successful candidate should hold the following essential criteria:

  • Extensive experience of teaching within the Vocational Teaching Assistant/Early Years qualifications
  • Experience of using MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Assessor certificate TAQA 3 or equivalent
  • IQA certificate TAQA 4 or equivalent (desirable)
  • Experience of mentoring
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • A Level 4 Teaching Qualification for post-compulsory settings (e.g. CTLLS or CET) as a minimum
  • GCSE Grade 9-5 English and maths qualifications (or equivalent)

Consideration will be given to exceptional applicants who do not hold but are willing to gain their Teaching Qualification and Assessor Certificate if successful. Details of this can be discussed at interview.

It would be useful for the candidate to also have the following desirable criteria:

  • Experience of working with a range of diverse and challenging learner groups
  • Experience of undertaking internal quality assurance
  • Knowledge of the local area and the community

Salary: Up to £28.78 per hour (depending on your level of teaching qualification and level of course you are teaching).
