The predicted salary is between 33900 - 39600 £ per year.
We are seeking a qualified and suitably experienced person to help deliver our environmental health services to the people and businesses of Orkney. Reporting directly to the Service Manager, you will have responsibility for a busy and varied caseload of environmental health work throughout Orkney – focusing primarily on port health services.
You will plan and undertake inspections and visits to vessels of all types along with taking the necessary actions to provide advice, guidance and support to ensure compliance with the law and that risks to health are appropriately managed. Good working knowledge of port health legislation is required along with the confidence to manage your own casework and conflicting demands with limited management supervision. Out of hours work will be necessary, as will be the ability to travel throughout Orkney.
You will have an Honours degree in a relevant subject, as well as a REHIS Higher Certificate in Food Practice, to be able to work as a Food Safety Officer. You must also be eligible to work as a food law officer within Scotland and membership of REHIS or equivalent is desirable. To hold the role of Local Authority Competent Person, you must be fully qualified and Registered with REHIS at practice as an Environmental Health Officer in Scotland and have a minimum of 2 years post qualifying and registration experience as an Environmental Health Officer in a Local Authority. A valid medical certificate (ENG1 or equivalent) is also essential.
Given the seasonal nature of this work, the post is open to annualised hours. You will need to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery and self-improvement by undertaking a scheme of relevant continuous professional development and be willing to help out with all aspects of environmental health work within our small team.
