The Building Services Department is seeking an Irrigation Technician to join the already awesome team, taking the Building Services Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
The ideal candidate will perform tasks related to irrigation. This includes maintaining and repairing irrigation systems. Replaces, repairs, troubleshoots, and adjusts faulty irrigation components, including but not limited to controllers, valves, heads, main and lateral lines, belts, switches, and contacts. Operates lightweight standard trenching and digging machinery. Guides and oversees the work of others if related support is needed (e.g., Groundkeepers).
In addition to supporting the department with irrigation duties, assignments will generally fall into one of the following groupings, although overlapping of duties may occur as needed:
- Conducts wet checks and monitors irrigation system performance in designated areas regularly.
- Operates timers, clocks, and controls for sprinklers.
- Programs irrigation controllers as needed.
- Replaces, repairs, and troubleshoots faulty irrigation components, such as controllers, valves, heads, and main and lateral lines.
- Installs new drip irrigation and turf sprinkler systems as needed.
- Performs scheduled shutoffs for campus event requests.
- Recognizes water deficiencies in turf areas and makes the necessary corrections.
- Orders, purchases, and inventories of supplies.
- Operates lightweight standard trenching and digging machinery (e.g., Walk behind a Ditch Witch, Stand on min-skid steer).
- Drives to any of the GSU campuses to perform the work.
- May assist in maintenance activities as required.
- Guides and oversees the work of others if related support is needed (e.g. Groundskeepers).
- Perform physical activity (e.g., heavy lifting, pushing, pulling objects over 50 pounds).
- Read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned and attend meetings associated with the scope of work.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED and three years of related experience, such as landscape irrigation, installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation and/or sprinkler systems, or related plumbing equipment and pumps.
- A valid Georgia driver's license is required.
Preferred Requirements:
- Knowledge of operating lightweight standard trenching and digging machinery (e.g., trenchers, excavators, and ditchers).
- Knowledge of work-related health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of Xeriscape techniques.
- Effective communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings (e.g. blueprints).
