Bassingbourn Barracks, SG8 5LX. Please note this role is directly customer facing and involves working within a store/warehouse, so you will be expected to be on site/in the office 5 days a week as this role involves physically issuing/receiving equipment in a store.
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.
The Mission Ready Training Centre (MRTC) is part of the Army Collective Training Group and is responsible for assuring the directed training of both individual soldiers and formed units deploying on Operations within the UK and worldwide. After being closed for several years, Bassingbourn Barracks is undergoing a complete modernisation to accommodate MRTC and numerous smaller lodger units. The MRTC is a mix of Army personnel (both Regular and Reserve) and Civil Servants.
Your role as an Operational Clothing Storekeeper will be to support the Quartermaster’s department in ensuring all MRTC held Operational clothing and equipment is managed and controlled in accordance with legislation and policy, to support MRTC in completing its mission. Here at the MRTC, we strive to provide world class deployment preparation in order ‘To inspire confidence, so that people excel on operations’. Your delivery in this role will have a direct effect on our ability to do that.
This post will involve on occasions working outside of the core hours, so a degree of flexibility is required. Overtime pay or time off in lieu will be granted. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
The Operational Clothing Storekeeper position is an essential role within the MRTC Quartermasters Department, responsible for the management and control of Operational clothing and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:- Demand stores
- Issue/receipt of stores
- Back-loading of general stores
- Deal with outside agencies for collection of waste disposal
- Deputising for Equipment Table storekeeper
- Deputy radiation supervisor for the unit
- Deputy Unit Administrative Assistant
- Main office support and administration tasks including correspondence
- Maintaining documentation for stores accounting and auditing
Please note: This post requires a degree of physical ability as you will be expected to lift and carry equipment, boxes of ancillaries and equipment around the store (also load/offload vehicles), and place/retrieve items and boxes from shelving that may be above head height. In accordance with HSE guidance, the recommended maximum manual handling weight that applicants can expect to lift is men (25kg) and women (16kg).
Essential Skills Required:- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and will be comfortable dealing with colleagues of all grades

- Forklift license
