MS - Applied Data Science is seeking to hire an instructor to teach core and elective courses in our curriculum, in our residential and online program. The courses include but are not limited to IA 651: Applied Machine Learning, IA 640: Information Visualization as well as possible elective courses. The projected teaching load is 4+4. The position is for 2 years and it is planned to start in August 2025.
Responsibilities:
- In person and remote teaching of designated course sections as specified by the contact hours for each of the courses.
- Maintaining and updating syllabi for the designated courses in our program.
- Ongoing review and modification of labs, guided exercises, assignments and examination materials for designated courses.
- Conducting in person and remote office hours for each of the designated course sections.
- Help with academic advising and career search advice.
- Help with setting up and approving GA appointments and bi-weekly time cards for the students in our program.
Qualifications:
Minimal Qualifications: MS in Applied Data Science or related field. Requirements should be completed by the time work commences.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Data Science or related field.
Minimal Experience: 2 years of professional experience in machine learning and corporate data management and/or 2 years of experience as instructor and/or teaching assistant experience in data science courses.
Essential Skills:
- Expertise in Probability, Statistic, Visualization using R package.
- Teaching and advising.
- Python and SQL competency.
- Proficiency in using a BI package (such as Tableau or PowerBI).
- Ability to initiate tasks and work well independently.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Class management, grading, leading recitation sessions, lab design and management.
