Reactor Operator Trainee
The Opportunity
Exciting and rewarding opportunities have arisen at Sizewell B Power Station to join our highly skilled and motivated Operations Department at the heart of the station\’s safe, reliable generation. There are a number of vacancies to join the next Main Control Room Training Programme. Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be appointed as a Duly Authorised Person within a shift team, responsible for operating the reactor and all associated equipment.
At Sizewell B, the Main Control Room teams play a fundamental role in providing a strong operational bias to the rest of the power station, identifying and escalating plant issues based on plant performance, and developing standards both within and outside the company to improve human performance, leading to safe, reliable generation.
Pay, benefits and culture
The salary range for this role is between £45,641 and £81,263. The starting salary will likely be within £45,641 – £60,826, based on your experience, qualifications, and the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement. We offer an attractive pension scheme and other benefits. You will also be entitled to shift allowance once applicable. These are full-time, permanent positions based on-site at Sizewell B Power Station.

What you’ll be doing
Upon joining the Training Programme, you’ll undertake various courses and gain site exposure. This includes site familiarisation, shadowing workers, and training on Operator Fundamentals, site-specific education, and simulator exercises. The programme lasts approximately two years, after which you will be qualified as a Reactor Operator and can begin shift work. There will also be opportunities for career progression within the Main Control Room.
You will be a valued member of the Station Emergency Scheme, requiring rotational on-call duties with appropriate remuneration.
Who you are
- Have industrial and operational engineering experience
- Ability to think dynamically and manage multiple inputs
- Remain calm under operational pressure
- Possess a relevant HNC or degree
- Interested in working within a complex Nuclear Power Station

Please note the role requires maintaining physical fitness, passing a medical assessment, and obtaining SC level vetting, which includes residency requirements.
