Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Qualified Helicopter Instructor (QHI) to join our team based at RNAS Culdrose. We are proud to deliver the AESES (Air Engineering and Aviation Support) contract at RNAS Culdrose, supporting activities ranging from the repair and maintenance of military aircraft to off-aircraft support services. Culdrose is one of the Navy's two principal air bases, and one of the busiest military airfields in the UK.
Our Qualified Helicopter Instructor will deliver ground-based pilot training as required for Merlin Helicopter Force and will be responsible for training and support for the following responsibilities:
- Ab-initio pilot conversion to type (CTT) and conversion to role (CTR).
- Ab-initio observer and aircrewman CTT and CTR.
- Instructor standardisation.
- Rotary Wing Test Squadron (RWTS) Mk2 familiarisation.
- Merlin Refresher.
- Maritime Counter Terrorism.
- Night Vision Device (NVD).
- Defensive Aids Suite (DAS).
- Left Hand Seat.
- Merlin Simulator Operator training.
- Tailored training to support high readiness tasking.
- Minimum Annual Simulator Time Training (MAST).
Other Accountabilities:
- Act as Duty MTF Officer.
- Host Visits.
- Attend and support the Flight Safety Committee, training meetings and standardisation meetings.
- Ensure the Serco AESAS Support Manager is made aware of all business risks.
- Ensure all employees under their control comply with:
- The Health and Safety at Work (HASAW) Act 1974.
- The Serco Management System.
- Customer Policy and Regulations where applicable to their position.
- Company and Customer Environmental procedures.

What you’ll need to do the role:
- Must have minimum B1 Grade with at least 500 hours Merlin HM Mk 1 or 2 and 300 instructional hours (simulated or airborne across aircraft types). Desirable A2/A1 Grade.
- A thorough and good working knowledge of the following:
- Completed a Maintenance Human Factors Course.
- Cleared to Secret UK Eyes only.
- To be compliant in Defence Systems Approach (DSAT).
- To be Defence Trainer Course qualified.
