The Information Research Bureau (IRB) is a vital 24/7 department providing continuous support to our force by researching, interpreting, and disseminating information and intelligence related to threats, risks, harm, and crime via radio, phone calls, real time incident logs (CMP) and various other methods. We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team of IRB Operators working a revolving 24/7 shift pattern: x2 0700-1600, x2 1200-2200, x2 2200-0700 followed by 4 rest days.

As a trainee Operator, you will be fully supported and coached throughout your training program, whilst navigating through the various classroom courses and in-house learning. As a fully trained Operator, you will have responsibility in many areas where no two days are the same.

As An Operator, You Can Expect To:

• Create and maintain accurate and comprehensive criminal records on the Police National Computer (PNC).
• Ensure accurate records on PNC, including vehicle markers, Missing Persons, Wanted Persons, Information Markers, and Operational Information.
• Provide real-time assistance to operational officers by researching and interrogating databases, offering real-time checks for Patrol and Response officers.
• Conduct research and interpret information from multiple policing systems to provide real-time information for informed decision-making on threat, harm, and risk.
• Provide force-wide advice on utilising available resources and systems for investigations.
• Conduct research for intelligence and information on various policing incidents, including domestic abuse risk assessment, missing persons, and diverse situations from murder to neighbourhood disputes.
• Determine the proportionate, relevant, and compliant disclosure of information in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance.
• Handle intelligence related to protective orders, such as Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme (CSODS) and Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS).
• Conduct complex PNC investigations, including vehicle online descriptive searches (VODS) and QUEST person descriptive searches, supporting ongoing investigations.
• Manage PNC DAF report administration to ensure accuracy and currency of information.
• Evaluate messages coming into the IRB via the PNC, deciding on the areas of circulation considering the nature of the information.
• Process prison recall paperwork from the Home Office, conducting research to ensure timely location and return of subjects to prison.
• Train and develop Trainee IRB Operators through coaching, guiding them through department policies and procedures.
• Assist in pre-planned and Ad Hoc operations within Local Policing Areas.

You will need to be educated to a good standard including excellent numeric and literacy skills which must be evidenced in your application form. Attention to detail and accuracy is essential, whilst using your own initiative to analyse and resolve problems when they arise. You must be highly self-motivated, have the ability to work as part of a busy team under pressure and be flexible in your approach to working tasks and hours. You should have experience of and the ability to use computers with a wide variety of IT applications and a proven ability of inputting data accurately and quickly.

Applicants invited to interview will be asked to take a short typing test as part of the assessment process with a 28 WPM as a pass. Along with all other posts in the Force Intelligence & Specialist Operations Departments, this role will require an enhanced level of vetting.
