Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct proactive interior and exterior rounds to prevent, deter, and identify potential criminal activity, safety concerns, and public safety hazards.
- Respond to public safety calls for service, triage, and address emergency situations.
- Perform various monitoring duties including patient watches, rounding, parking lot audits, and post assignments as per Post Orders.
- Provide coverage at the Switchboard, Communication, and Dispatch Center.
- Act as a liaison between the hospital and local emergency services.
- Use CCTV systems to identify, report, and address public safety concerns.
- De-escalate crisis situations through verbal techniques and, if necessary, apply physical restraints.
- Contribute to a community and customer service-oriented safety program.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of posts, equipment, and vehicles; perform basic cleaning as needed.
- Support hospital values and mission by delivering exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.
Per Diem Officers are required to work at least 3 shifts per month, including one weekend and one overnight or shift coverage as needed, plus one major summer and winter holiday. This summary highlights key functions but does not include all job details.
Education/Experience Required:
- Thorough knowledge of the hospital environment.
- Previous law enforcement or military experience preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a related role.
- Ability to operate a telephone, computer, and dispatch software.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Registration/Certification:
- Must obtain and maintain MA LTC within 6 months of employment.
- Maintain MA Driver’s License.
- Complete IAHSS Basic Security Officer training within 60 days of employment.
- Obtain and maintain MOAB Certification within 3 months of employment; CPI or other may be used until training is available.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
- This role involves frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking, and lifting over 10 lbs.
- Occasional climbing stairs, lifting over 50-100 lbs, and sitting are required.
- Constant use of hearing, sight, speech, smell, and touch.
- Frequent keyboard and phone use, with constant concentration and problem solving.
