He/She applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Registered Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered. Description The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Registered Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered. Essential Functions Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient. Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to the patients. Establishing, reviewing, revising and following the patient plan of care Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse Recording patient care activities including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patients medical record. Using a variety of computer systems Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care. Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients, and promotes heath and healing. Oversight of LPN practices. Unit specific duties. Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English Must possess the ability to work under pressure, to adapt quickly in changing situations, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of settings. Required Skills BLS current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire. ACLS current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire. PALS current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire. NRP current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire. STABLE – current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire. Trauma Nursing Core Certification (TNCC) – preferred. Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification (ENPC) – preferred.
