This is a temporary position typically lasting one year with the possibility of extension. Responsible for general fish husbandry on the EW Shell Research Center. Support principal functions of the Center by assisting faculty and staff on a wide variety of projects related to fish production, aquaculture research, and fisheries management.

Essential Functions:

  • Fish feeding, tank cleaning, behavioral observations, maintenance of aquaculture systems, spawning and larval rearing
  • Assist in research related activities for faculty & staff projects
  • Daily record keeping & record entry
  • Water quality analysis using meters (DO, pH, temp) and chemical test kits (HACH)
  • Stock, harvest, & transport fish on-the-farm, locally and long distances
  • Operate and maintain equipment including tractors, UTVs, trucks & fish hauling gear
  • General facilities/grounds maintenance & housekeeping as needed
  • Crew leader for the undergraduate employees ensuring daily duties are being completed and goals are being met
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fisheries/Aquaculture or related Biological Sciences
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Lift weights exceeding 50 lbs
  • Driver's License and ability to operate small machinery

Desired Qualifications:

  • Multiple years of experience working in the field of study related to fisheries, aquaculture, or biological sciences
  • Ability to serve as crew leader for undergraduate student employees

Salary Range: $14.50-$16.00/hour

Work Hours: Typically 7:30am - 4:30pm

City position is located in: Auburn

State position is located: Alabama
