Purpose of the role: We are recruiting for a Trainee Trade Surveillance and Settlements Representative to join the Operations Risk and Control team. The role is responsible for the oversight of trades placed directly with market counterparties and venues, monitoring of trading through the electronic trading systems to ensure timely and effective trade execution and ensuring trade executions are completed in accordance with the firms' compliance and risk policies and regulatory obligations. As well as ensuring timely settlement of trades, processing residual certificates and requests and reconciling cash and stock positions both internally and with external custodians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Trade dispute resolution.
  • Fact-based approach to systems and controls and proactive ownership of effective problem resolution.
  • Monitor for best execution of equities, bonds, fixed income and other financial instruments covering UK and International markets.
  • Investigate all new issues of securities and seek the relevant approval for these to be added to the ii platform.
  • Immediate escalation of trade related issues to Management and mitigating risk to the business by obtaining a fair and prompt resolution.
  • Timely and accurate processing of all customer documents and returned queries to ensure that customer needs are met.
  • Manage Cash and Stock exceptions by updating the reconciliations database with standard narratives, maintaining a complete audit trail.
  • Ensure timely settlement of trades and transactions.
  • Adherence to the regulations that apply to the area that you are working in.
  • Responsible for the processing of all departmental tasks, with a high degree of accuracy.

Eligibility Criteria: To apply for this role, you will need:

  • To be at least 18 years old as of 1st September 2025.
  • Be a UK/EEA citizen or have lived in the UK/EEA continuously for the last 3 years.
  • To be eligible to work in the UK and not in full-time education.
  • Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) grades A* to C (new grades 9 to 4).
  • You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar subject.

About the Apprenticeship: As a Trainee Trade Surveillance and Settlements Representative you will develop the technical knowledge plus the professional skills and behaviours to work within our exciting and fast-paced Risk and Control team, gaining valuable work experience plus achieving a qualification through a structured apprenticeship programme to kick-start your career. Within your development program, you will learn and grow technical knowledge in the following areas:

  • Industry and company understanding.
  • Regulatory & compliance knowledge.
  • Learning of products, systems & processes.
  • Explore client service and relationships.
  • Providing exceptional service delivery.
  • Effective communication and influencing.
  • Completion of the CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment) Level 3 Certificate in Investment Operations.

By the end of the apprenticeship, you will achieve your Level 4 Investment Operations Specialist Apprenticeship plus you will gain a professional globally recognised qualification with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI). Typically, the apprenticeship will take around 18 months to complete.

Important: Salary: Β£27,800. Assessment centre dates: July 2025. Start date: Monday 1st September 2025.
