AUTOMATIK VFX and THE POST REPUBLIC are London & Berlin-based VFX and Post Production studios, providing the full spectrum of digital image creation, image and sound post-production.
THE POST REPUBLIC specializes in delivering the best post-production solutions and facilities such as a digital on-set lab, editing, colour grading, sound design, mixing, and digital delivery. Whilst AUTOMATIK VFX delivers best-in-class visual effects for high-end TV and features.

Operating mostly as the sole vendor, we cover everything from conceptual design pre-shoot, through post-vis to the final delivered VFX, the image and sound. The Job
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled CROWD Artist/CFX freelance artist to join our team at Automatik. As a CROWD Artist/TD, you will be pivotal in delivering visually stunning and believable crowd simulations for high-end feature films and television projects. Working closely with VFX Supervisors, Animation Leads, and other departments, you will contribute creatively and technically to ensure the highest standards of realism and integration are achieved.
We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible until the end of April 2025.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute high-quality crowd simulations that meet the artistic and technical goals of each project.
- Refine and enhance crowd behaviours, animation styles, and visual aesthetics to align with creative intent.
- Tackle complex crowd-related challenges, providing innovative and efficient solutions with minimal supervision.
- Work closely with other departments, including animation, lighting, and compositing, to ensure seamless integration of crowd elements.
- Ensure that crowd simulations meet the studio\’s artistic and technical standards across all shots.
Experience, Skills & Attributes
- At least 5+ years of professional experience in a VFX environment, with a strong portfolio demonstrating high-end crowd simulation work on feature films or TV projects.
- Expert knowledge of tools such as Houdini Crowds, Solaris/Karma and Houdini Fur.
- Proficiency in Python or MEL scripting to enhance and customize workflows.
- Strong sense of motion, timing, and visual composition to create believable crowd performances.
- Familiarity with animation, rigging, and rendering in Solaris/Karma for crowd simulation, Fu r caching.
- Communication: Excellent communication and team collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
Bonus Skills
- Experience in AI-driven crowd simulation techniques.
- Knowledge of real-time crowd tools or game engine workflows (e.g., Unreal Engine).
- Familiarity with Linux-based environments and modern VFX workflows.
- Experience in developing custom tools for crowd simulation.
