Position Overview: As a Consultant in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry (Inpatient), you will lead the provision of expert psychiatric care to individuals with learning disabilities within an inpatient setting. You will play a pivotal role in assessing, diagnosing, and managing complex mental health needs while promoting the well-being and quality of life of patients with learning disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership and expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of individuals with learning disabilities admitted to inpatient psychiatric units.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams in the development and implementation of individualized care plans tailored to the unique needs and abilities of patients with learning disabilities.
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, risk assessments, and mental health reviews to inform treatment decisions and interventions.
- Deliver evidence-based psychiatric treatments, including psychopharmacological interventions, behavioral therapies, and environmental modifications, to optimize patient outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with families, carers, and external agencies to ensure coordinated care and support for patients transitioning between inpatient and community settings.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Completion of specialist training in Psychiatry with endorsement or accreditation in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry.
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent professional body.
- Substantial experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in learning disabilities psychiatry, preferably within an inpatient setting.
- Excellent clinical skills in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health disorders in individuals with learning disabilities.
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaborative skills.
