Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Refuelling Operative who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The position is based in London at North Pole Train Maintenance Centre.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will be responsible for servicing trains, including fuel, toilet, screen wash, diesel, Ad-Blu, and fresh water, and supporting maintenance staff with corrective and preventative maintenance, fault finding, and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets. This is a permanent position on a rotating night shift basis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Service and replenish trains arriving from service, including diesel, Ad-Blu, toilet systems, fresh water, windscreen wash, and sand hoppers.
  • Record all servicing activities and materials used in the maintenance management system (MMS).
  • Perform daily checks of service equipment and maintain cleanliness.
  • Report defects to the Refuelling Team Leader and record in MMS.
  • Support maintenance with fault finding and repairs.
  • Contribute to the development of the MMS to ensure all servicing requirements are captured and completed.
  • Manage fluid and material usage, ensuring proper labeling and procedures for returns to stores.
  • Follow lean principles and best practices at North Pole and other locations.
  • Assist in ensuring trains are available for service as per contractual requirements.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, including PPE use and site cleanliness.
  • Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as needed.
  • Perform first-level fault rectification on service spine equipment.
  • Carry out general depot duties as required.

Required Skills

  • Local PTS
  • Manual Handling, COSHH, working at height, powered plant and tools (air/110v)
  • Experience supporting maintenance teams in a modern rolling stock depot
  • Safety awareness in railway environments
  • Experience working at stabling out stations or main line stations
  • Understanding of safe systems of work
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience with maintenance management systems (MMS)
