County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust invite applications for the position of Theatre Healthcare Assistant for our site at Bishop Auckland General Hospital. Our Theatre team are friendly and supportive, encouraging professional development to enhance skills and professional competence. The departmental Practice Development team, in coordination with the Theatre Management team, support the staff members to identify and realise areas for career progression, both on an individual basis and also as a team approach to achieving their highest potential.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Complete all essential training.
- Be an effective part of the multi-disciplinary team, assisting in the preparation, clearing and cleaning of the equipment ready for use.
- Assist the registered practitioners with the delivery of high quality care in the perioperative setting.
- Maintain patients' privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
- Assist your fellow practitioners with delegated clinical tasks.
- Provide support to the surgical colleagues when preparing and delivering anaesthetic and surgical procedures.
- Prepare and provide the surgical instruments and any supplementary items for surgery.
- Prepare the clinical environment for anaesthetic and surgical procedures.
- Positioning of patients for their specific procedure with consideration of pressure area care and patient comfort and dignity.
- Assist with safe moving and handling of patients following trust guidelines.
- Escorting and transferring patients between departments ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

- Essential: Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent relevant experience. Care Certificate or willingness to complete within first 6 months of commencement in post. GCSE equivalent in English and Mathematics.
