Reporting to: Steward Resourcing and Training Lead

About the Role: The primary role is to ensure those entering the stadium are on the designated parking list or have the necessary parking permit. Once entry has been authorised you will ensure that they park in the correct parking bay and abide by the car park speed limits. At the end of the event/match you will be responsible for ensuring all visitors exit the stadium safely, giving due care and attention to any pedestrians. This role will require a customer focused individual who enjoys working with the public. No previous experience is required as full training will be provided.

The main duties of car park stewards are:

  • Controlling vehicle entry points, directing traffic movement, checking vehicle authorisation and patrolling the site ensuring the security of parked vehicles.
  • Ensure vehicles are parked safely and that emergency routes are kept clear at all times.
  • Identify and report hazards such as broken glass and oil spillages.
  • To risk assess all situations and to ensure that all activity is undertaken in a safe manner.
  • Clear understanding of Club emergency procedures and coded messages.
  • Delivering excellent customer service.

Areas of work: The three car parks adjacent to the stadium – Brian Clough Car Park, East Car Park and Peter Taylor Car Park.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Attend the Stadium at given dates and times as directed by the Stewarding Services Lead.
  • Not to leave the relevant area assigned to you after registering your attendance, until completion of your duties as directed by your supervisor or Safety Management Team.
  • Attend pre-event briefings and ensure all information is understood and what your role entails as well as your areas of responsibility.
  • Remain at your allocated post as instructed, unless authorised or ordered to do otherwise by a Supervisor or a member of the Safety Management Team.
  • Assist pedestrians passing through your area of responsibility.
  • Report suspicious behaviour of drivers or members of the public to your supervisor or to the Safety Management Team.
  • Willing to commit to protracted working hours in all weather conditions.
  • Immediately report to a Supervisor, Head Steward or a member of the Safety Management Team, occurrences of persons climbing gates, fences, external walls or other structures within the confines or the perimeter of the ground.
  • Be aware of the location of fire-fighting equipment if required.
  • Be aware of locations of first aid rooms and other first aid equipment retained elsewhere in the Stadium.
  • Be willing to be trained in basic lifesaving skills.
  • Be fully conversant with any methods/messages or signals used to alert staff that an emergency has arisen.
  • Be capable of recognising potential fire hazards and suspect packages, reporting such findings immediately to a Supervisor or a member of the Safety Management Team.
  • To carry out all instructions given by the Safety Officer, through the management structure and to promptly comply with any instruction given in an emergency by a Police Officer.
  • Report to a supervisor any damage, defect or hazard which is likely to pose a threat to spectator safety.
  • Attend all training sessions as required by the Safety Management Team.

  • Car Park Stewards should be fit, active and not less than age 18 years of age.
  • Have the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • To remain calm and efficient and be able to work under pressure.
  • Have a polite and courteous manner.
  • Be able to adapt to different and changing situations.
  • Be flexible to work in different locations and roles within Stadium.
  • Be of smart appearance and personal hygiene with good communication skills.
  • Help to manage conflict and demonstrate confidence to challenge inappropriate behaviour.
  • Be able to remain stationary for prolonged periods, either standing or seated, climb and descend stairs.
  • Have basic numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Be willing to undertake and complete level 2 Certificate in Spectator Safety.
