An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Day Surgery Hub at Kidderminster Treatment Centre. We are looking for a dynamic Healthcare Assistant with initiative and a keen interest in Day Surgery. This is a part-time role for 34.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job:

• Your role as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) is to work alongside registered nurses as part of the Day Surgery Hub to provide care to patients.
• The types of duties include assisting trained nurses to prepare patients for theatre, serving patients meals, caring for patients post-operatively, helping people to mobilise, assisting patients with toileting, bed-making, generally assisting with patients' overall comfort, monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight.
• You will communicate effectively with patients and their carers.
• This role will require you to work variable hours on a rota including nights and weekends.

Job responsibilities:

• You will be involved in patient admission, introducing patients to the ward/department as directed by a registered nurse.
• You will assist in preparing patients for theatre, taking observations, helping complete admission details.
• You will look after patients post-operatively with a trained nurse, taking observations, getting food and drinks.
• You will assist with toileting, escorting patients to and from the lavatory and recording outputs where necessary.
• You will assist with monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight.
• You will assist with patients' mobilisation, ensuring a safe environment and using appropriate techniques.
• You will make beds and help to ensure the ward/department is kept clean, tidy, and safe.
• You will communicate with patients and their relatives with care and compassion.
• You will report to the nurse in charge of the department matters of concern relating to patients and the ward/department environment.
• You will assist the multi-professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and/or investigation maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
• You will safeguard vulnerable adults.
• You will ensure the privacy and dignity of patients are met at all times.
• You will be adaptable and flexible to working in various areas of the department or ward as required.

Person Specification:

• Qualifications:

• Essential: GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
• Desirable: Healthcare Apprenticeship or equivalent.

• Essential: Experience of working in a patient care setting or customer-facing environment.
• Desirable: Healthcare Apprenticeship or equivalent. Experience of working in a healthcare setting. Day surgery experience.
