Job overview

The Estates Department is looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to work as part of a multidisciplinary management team. The department provides management, development, maintenance and operational support for the Trust's buildings and engineering infrastructure. The role is critical to the Estates Department's maintenance support service and is demanding and varied as it covers a range of engineering services. The role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning and maintenance of a range of engineering services in the Trust's clinical and non-clinical facilities of a very busy directorate and to be part of a team that is constantly working to improve the quality and safety of the Trust's healthcare facilities.

The successful candidate will be based at Bridlington Hospital but must be willing to work at any of the Trust's sites when required and therefore must be able to travel independently across the Trust sites. You will be part of the Estates department on the Bridlington Hospital site working days Monday to Friday but also covering when necessary across other Trust sites hence you must be flexible regarding the hours of duty.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) of Electrical equipment
  • To test, maintain and service thermostatic devices.
  • To work as part of a maintenance team to carry out varying duties to meet the needs and commitments of Facilities Management.
  • To carry out general duties including cleaning within plant rooms and workshops, as would be associated with a busy department.
  • To carry out various maintenance duties (fault finding/soldering/calibration of equipment) where knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and their interlinking is needed.
  • To work in a variety of locations which may include working at heights above ground level on properly constructed access equipment or within confined spaces using breathing equipment or any other situation that may arise for which the appropriate training and equipment is provided.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

  • Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent. English at C or above – or equivalent qualification/demonstrable experience
  • Current driving licence with the ability to drive Category B
  • Level 2 Qualification; NVQ, GNVQ, BTEC, City & Guilds certification.
  • City & Guilds 2377 certificate PAT Testing
  • Certificate in competence for working with high level access equipment
  • Water Safety Training
  • Confined Spaces Training

Experience and Knowledge

  • Knowledge and experience of maintenance duties across the three disciplines, electrical, mechanical and building (i.e. fault finding/soldering/calibration of equipment).
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety principles and safe working practices
  • Knowledge of electrical/mechanical systems and equipment

York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management LLP (YTHFM LLP) provides a full range of estates and facilities services to York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, together with project management for capital investments. YTHFM LLP is a partnership between York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management Limited. New starters will be employed by YTHFM and not directly by the NHS, however, they will enjoy the same terms and conditions as NHS staff covered by Agenda for Change.
