Remuneration: £72,000 FTE- plus £1000 working from home allowance

The Medicines Management - Lead Pharmacist will hold overall responsibility for the quality, safety, and governance of prescribing practices and medicines management at Psychiatry UK. The Medicines Management - Lead Pharmacist will play a key strategic and operational role in ensuring safe, compliant, and effective prescribing across the organisation.

This is a home-based role (applicants must reside in the UK), though occasional travel may be required for face-to-face meetings at various locations within the UK.

As our Medicines Management - Lead Pharmacist you will:

  • Work collaboratively with teams across the organisation to ensure compliance and best practice in all aspects of medicines management.
  • Provide clinical and operational leadership on medicines safety and prescribing standards across the organisation.
  • Support strategic planning and decision-making by advising senior management and executive colleagues on medicines-related governance.
  • Maintain and update relevant policies, SOPs and guidance.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director of Clinical Governance chair the Medicines Optimisation Group.
  • Oversee controlled drug (CD) PIN governance in collaboration with HR and clinical systems.
  • Ensure the clinical prescribing portal is accurate and compliant, including limiting available medication options, correcting prescriber details, and ensuring only verified clinicians are able to prescribe.
  • Review and respond to MHRA Medicines Recalls and Drug Alerts.
  • Support the safe and effective implementation of an electronic prescribing system in partnership with operational colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of training for staff.
  • Contribute to medicines-related audits by providing expert advice and reviewing findings and action plans.
  • Monitor prescribing trends across the organisation and work with relevant teams to resolve any issues in data reporting systems.
  • Maintain an overview of medicines-related incidents, working closely with the incident reporting and patient safety teams.
  • Respond to internal medication-related queries, including questions around polypharmacy or complex prescribing cases.
  • Act as the lead point of contact for external medication and prescribing queries from Integrated Care Boards (ICBs).
  • Liaise with NHSBSA regarding prescription queries, including submission and reimbursement processes.
  • Plan own workload to ensure that tasks are met.
  • Prioritise workload with consideration to issues arising and responding to shifting priorities appropriately.
  • Actively participate in regular supervision with line manager and the PUK PDR process for maintaining and developing personal skills and meeting agreed objectives.
  • The post holder will attend online training as relevant to the post including mandatory training courses.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • BSc (or equivalent) in a health science subject (e.g. Pharmacy, Nursing).
  • Proven experience as a registered prescriber.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant legislation, risk, and best practice in prescribing and medicines management.
  • Demonstrable experience of policy development, review, and implementation.
  • Experience conducting or overseeing clinical audit and data analysis.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Background in pharmacy or structured medicines governance roles.
  • Previous leadership or strategic-level experience within a healthcare organisation.
