WORKSHOP ASSISTANT (DECORATIVE METALWORKER) AT JAMES GILBERT AND SON Are you good working with your hands? Are you familiar with hand held power tools? We require a workshop assistant to assist with the manufacture and assembly of lightweight decorative metal products in a friendly and reputable decorative metalwork company, which has been running since 1881. We are looking for a workshop assistant to join our decorative metalwork team, assisting with the manufacture and finishing of our decorative grilles. You will be helping our friendly and hardworking staff manufacture these and other interior products for clients in the U.K. and abroad. Metalwork experience is not essential, but you will have workshop experience in a similar role, involving accurate measurement and assembly. This job would suit applicants who have experience of making items with their hands, either at home or in a previous position, but we are particularly looking for applicants who have good general workshop or manufacturing experience and are confident using hand held tools. Training in the specific requirements of the role will be provided to candidates who show the correct manual and mental aptitude for the work we do. Initially, you will start by assisting our skilled craftsmen with the basic tasks required in decorative grille making, measuring, cutting and assembling the items, applying bespoke treatments, and assisting with general workshop tasks as required. For the right person, this role will develop as you learn more about the products, gain new skills, and gain experience, including helping to produce complete products; polishing and colouring metals. Starting rate will depend on the experience you have. Those who can prove they have greater skills immediately or learn quickly will see their remuneration increase the fastest. Hours: 8am β 4.30pm Monday to Friday (earlier start/finish may operate in summer) Holiday: 28 days paid holiday per year (includes statutory holidays β pro rata) Required Education, Skills and Qualifications: Must be good with your hands, with experience of practical work, be able to use a tape measure and a drill, perform simple maths calculations and have a positive attitude to work.
