CIB Data Management is a function that sits within Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) COO organisation and is responsible for the data management activities within Client Coverage, Financial Markets and GCM.
The role of the Business Data Architect is to primarily support and implement data by design within their changes and projects. This involves building an understanding of business data requirements for critical business data attributes, building/mapping to the conceptual, logical data model, enhancement of the Logical data model, helping programmes with the target state data architecture, designing/implementing DQ standards and working with technology counterparts to ensure accurate implementation.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver data architecture solutions for CIB Coverage by developing conceptual and logical data models that meet business needs.
- Implement data quality (DQ) standards, reference data principles, and metadata governance frameworks.
- Lead the adoption of best practices in data classification, security, privacy, records keeping, and regulatory compliance.
- Support transformation programmes by providing end-to-end data architecture guidance and execution.
- Collaborate with Technology Architects on physical data models and architecture alignment.
- Provide expert consultation on data design across enterprise change initiatives.
- Promote and maintain governance forums to oversee and authorise data standards and models.
- Map business processes to data models to support impact analysis and data lineage.
- Involve/Engage Technology Architects and Teams to get support on Physical Data Architecture / Physical Data Models and related queries as required by Data Domain Ownership activities.
- Ensure (and if required implement and operate) appropriate governance forums to govern Data Design and Architecture, including defining their roles and responsibilities, to govern and authorise Data Designs, Models, Standards and Principles.
- Provide Data Architecture Consultation services to Group Projects and Change Initiatives.
- Understand Coverage processes and how these processes create/Amend data.
- Maintain a mapping of Processes to Conceptual data model as right level of granularity to support changes.
- Proven experience in enterprise-level data modelling and metadata management.
- Expertise in developing data definitions, standards, and governance across complex data environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data storytelling skills.
- Experience working with large datasets and relational databases.
- Familiarity with data query tools (e.g. SQL), metadata tooling, and data quality frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with an ability to collaborate across functions and levels.
- A proactive mindset with a focus on automation, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Deep understanding of the risks associated with poor data quality in financial services.
- Proficient in data modeling tools (e.g., Erwin).
- Experience with data analysis platforms such as Alteryx, Dataiku, Informatica (preferred).
- Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or similar (a plus).
- Background in banking or financial services strongly preferred.
