Job Description

We are ELEMENT ANIMATION, a small animation studio passionate about creating compelling, character-driven stories with a comedic twist. We create animated content for our millions of our own audience, for commercial projects and for global events. Our videos have been seen all around the world and we’ve grown a following in multiple countries. We may be a small team, but we’re a huge creative force.

Our projects combine humour, heart, and innovation, and we’re looking for a versatile freelance CG artist to join us.

If you love collaborating, storytelling, have a passion for learning, and enjoy exploring new technologies and creative processes, you’ll fit right in! This role starts as a freelance opportunity but has the potential to grow into an ongoing contract, making you an integral member of our team.

We understand this role requires a diverse set of skills, but above all, we’re looking for someone with a passion for learning, a collaborative spirit, and the willingness to grow alongside us.

Role Overview:

As a Freelance CG Animation Generalist & Creative Lead, you’ll play a key role in bringing our projects to life. You’ll contribute to the creative process, execute various CG tasks and occasionally, project management. This position requires someone with not only technical skills but also the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both the team and clients. You’ll also bring your curiosity and enthusiasm for innovation to introduce fresh ideas, techniques, and technologies that enhance our projects and workflow.

While the ideal candidate will have experience in many of the areas listed below, we’re happy to mentor and support someone who shows enthusiasm, adaptability, and a genuine love for animation and storytelling.

This is a client-facing role, so professionalism and excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Development:

  • Contribute to ideation, storyboarding, and scriptwriting, bringing imaginative and humorous ideas to the table.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop engaging narratives and characters.

CG Animation Tasks:

  • Execute a variety of CG tasks, including modeling, texturing, rigging, lighting, animation, and rendering.
  • Work with the team to deliver polished, high-quality animation with comedic timing and personality.
  • Handle VFX, compositing, and final production touches to bring projects to life.

Learning & Innovation:

  • Stay curious and up-to-date with the latest creative tools, techniques, and technologies.
  • Embrace mentorship opportunities to grow in areas you’re less familiar with.
  • Introduce new ideas and workflows to enhance our creative process and team capabilities.
  • Share insights and foster a culture of learning and growth within the team.

Client & Team Communication:

  • Present creative concepts and updates to clients professionally and confidently.
  • Communicate effectively with the team to ensure smooth collaboration and alignment with project goals.
  • Help manage client expectations and maintain strong relationships.

Project Management (As Needed):

  • Assist in organizing and tracking project timelines, deliverables, and team responsibilities.
  • Ensure deadlines are met and that the team stays on track.
  • Coordinate with clients and team members to keep everyone aligned.

Leadership & Direction:

  • Take ownership of sequences or projects, ensuring they meet quality and vision standards.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to other team members to maintain a high standard of work.
  • Step into animation directing responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in 3D animation tools (Experience with Maya preferred).
  • Experience across the CG pipeline (from asset creation to final renders).
  • Strong storytelling skills, with experience in scriptwriting being a bonus.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating remotely.
  • Prior experience in freelance or contract work is a plus.
