Are you ready to play a key role in advancing novel AAV gene therapies from development to commercialisation? We’re seeking a Downstream Process Development Scientist to join a collaborative and dynamic Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MSAT) team. You’ll help shape the future of gene therapy by driving innovation in downstream and drug product unit operations—from early-stage development through to GMP tech transfer.
About the Role
- Lead or support the development of downstream processes (chromatography, filtration, TFF, formulation, fill/finish) for novel AAV products.
- Transfer processes from lab-scale to GMP facilities.
- Execute and document development studies and protocols.
- Contribute to clinical and commercial manufacturing campaigns.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to the knowledge base within MSAT.
- Drive technical excellence and innovation, leveraging high-throughput tools, statistical and mechanistic modelling, and DoE principles.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and analytical teams.
Background and Qualifications
- PhD/EngD with 2+ years’ industry experience OR MSc/BSc with 4+ years’ experience in downstream process development.
Key Skills and Experience
- Experience with AAV purification, TFF, and chromatography (ion exchange, affinity, etc.).
- Understanding of GMP, QbD, and scale-up principles.
- Familiarity with statistical tools (DoE, ANOVA, t-tests, multivariate analysis).
- Analytical assay experience (qPCR, ELISA, HPLC, UV-spectrometry).
- Experience drafting SOPs, work instructions, and supporting regulatory documentation.
- Knowledge of mechanistic modelling, programming, or automated data handling is a bonus.
What We’re Looking For:
- A sharp analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
- Collaborative spirit with the initiative to take ownership of work.
- A passion for improving bioprocesses through innovation and scientific rigour.
