This role is responsible for leading all technical functions within a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment. Acting as the senior technical expert, you will ensure the highest standards of food safety, product quality, legal compliance, and manufacturing integrity. The role encompasses leadership of the technical team, supplier quality assurance, audit preparation and execution, and continuous development of the company’s quality and food safety systems.
You will work cross-functionally with internal teams, suppliers, co-manufacturers, and customers, ensuring all products and processes align with regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and internal standards.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and maintain the company’s HACCP systems and ensure full compliance with food safety regulations.
- Oversee the Quality Management System, driving continuous improvement and ensuring documentation is current and effective.
- Conduct internal audits and manage preparation and responses to third-party and customer audits (e.g., BRCGS, SALSA, Organic).
- Ensure traceability systems and mass balance exercises are effectively managed.
- Ensure all labelling and packaging artwork comply with legal and regulatory standards.
- Keep up-to-date with industry regulations and ensure alignment across all business functions.
- Manage technical documentation and support new product development from concept through to launch.
- Liaise with external stakeholders to ensure co-manufacturers and suppliers comply with company standards.
- Day-to-day management, development, and training of the technical and quality teams.
- Ensure all staff are competent in food safety, quality, and hygiene protocols.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to staff and cross-functional teams.
- Represent the company in all technical-related matters with customers, auditors, and industry bodies.
- Work closely with senior leadership, operations, and NPD teams to support business objectives.
- Attend customer meetings in a technical capacity, ensuring expectations are understood and met.
- Develop and control the technical department’s budget, including cost-effective management of quality and laboratory activities.
- Conduct Health & Safety inductions for new staff and visitors.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Deep understanding of food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with audit standards (BRCGS, SALSA, M&S, Organic, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
