Duties will include: Provide anaesthesia and analgesia for patients undergoing elective and emergency surgery, under the supervision of a more senior anaesthetist (Registrar/Consultant) Undertake pre-operative assessments and provide post-operative care in recovery Participate in the delivery of the acute pain service, with senior supervision Communicate with their supervising Middle Grade or Consultant Anaesthetist for advice and support as required Provide resuscitation and trauma care with support of more senior anaesthetist Familiarise themselves with their role in the Trust’s Major Incident policy and departmental policies When required, provide support to the intensive care team, either on ICU, in the Emergency Department or the wards, with appropriate supervision. If appropriate, they may also be required to transfer patients to another hospital. Perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant in consultation where applicable with colleagues both senior and junior Attend teaching sessions and departmental meetings including Clinical Governance Follow the General Medical Council ‘Good Medical Practice’ guidance with respect to all duties (www.gmc-uk.org) Interviews to be held W/C – 15th July 2024 Person specification Essential Essential criteria Possession of basic medical qualification (e.g., MBBS or equivalent registerable medical qualification) and completion of at least one year in an internship post Provision of evidence of having worked for a minimum of 6 months in the last year in anaesthesia Provision of evidence of good standing from the applicant’s local medical regulatory council Demonstrate knowledge of English by obtaining an overall score of 7.5, with minimum scores of 7.0 in speaking, listening, reading and writing in the IELTS Eligibility for PLAB exemption Provision of two structured, supportive references from supervising consultants, both of whom must have worked with the applicant within the last 2 years Minimum of 6 months of anaesthetic training Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) or equivalent Advanced Life Support certification (UK or equivalent) Appropriate knowledge, practical skills, and attitude to independently preoperatively assess and anaesthetise ASA 1 or 2 patients having minor/moderate uncomplicated surgical procedures Ability to identify high-risk patients preoperatively Ability and attitude to recognize a deteriorating patient and when to call for help Working knowledge and familiarity with commonly used anaesthetic equipment and drugs Familiarity with core anaesthetic national guidance, e.g., DAS guidelines for failed intubation Coherent, diplomatic communication skills with theatre team, patients, and families Enthusiasm and commitment to the specialty Ability to work harmoniously with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals Flexibility, punctuality, and reliability Ability to cope with stressful situations GMC registration is mandatory Desirable criteria Further experience in anaesthetics or intensive care or acute medical specialties Awareness of specialty developments IT skills including databases, spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint, etc. Demonstrable presentation skills in educational or scientific settings Personable and project management skills Additional essential criteria Understanding of audit principles and commitment to its use as a tool for raising and maintaining standards #J-18808-Ljbffr
