The Bench Welder/Fabricator works directly with a team of shop associates and engineers to construct a variety of standard and customized (Engineered to Order) telescopic seating components while working in a personal workspace at a welding bench. The Bench Welder/Fabricator welds using the MIG process on sheet metal in various thicknesses with gauges and very little to no base material preparation or post weld requirements. We offer in-house welding qualifications in accordance with the American Welding Society and opportunity for qualification directly with the Canadian Welding Bureau. We will also provide in-house training or support outside training for individuals seeking to further their welding knowledge and/or credentials.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize production schedule, understand, and adhere to product acceptability requirements.
  • Maintain consistent and accurate records and maintain accurate inventory counts.
  • Read and interpret engineered drawings and welding symbols.
  • Design and fabricate temporary welding fixtures for custom work when standard fixturing is not available.
  • Utilize basic measuring tools such as tape measure, squares and protractors.
  • Actively participate in Daily Communication Meetings reviewing Daily Safety, Quality, Delivery and Continuous Improvement actions.
  • Ensure production schedule follow through as allocated by the scheduled department.
  • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of welding cutting equipment and work area in accordance with company standards and manufacturers machine recommendations.
  • Perform activities supporting the establishment of work center standards for process improvement.
  • Perform First Piece Part Quality checks and facilitate work-order paper flow in accordance with Hussey Seating Company Quality Standards.
  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures, Visual Workplace Standards, and ongoing Lean continuous improvement activities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 10 years Welding/Fabrication operational knowledge and experience applying MIG.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift, carry, push and/or pull 1-50 lbs. frequently.
  • Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead frequently.
  • Sit, stand and walk for 1-10 hours per day.
  • Ability to work in 55 to 90 degree work environment.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
