The estate includes woodlands, formal gardens, agricultural fields used for hay, vegetable gardens, swimming pools, and outbuildings. There are two part-time gardeners employed, and contractors are brought in as needed. This is a very hands-on role and is not suitable for someone who prefers an administrative position.

They conduct regular inspections of the gardens and grounds, identifying and addressing any maintenance or care needs to uphold high aesthetic and functional standards. Additionally, they develop and maintain a seasonal planting and maintenance schedule to ensure the exterior spaces remain vibrant throughout the year. To support these initiatives, they manage the procurement of gardening supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

Responsibilities:
  • Designing and implementing garden plans and maintaining the estate's grounds to the highest standards.
  • Managing a small team of gardeners and contractors, providing direction and leadership.
  • Overseeing the care of plants, trees, and lawns, and ensuring proper maintenance and upkeep of all exterior features.
  • Developing and implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly gardening practices. The Estate uses organic practices as much as possible.
  • Managing the estate's vegetable and herb gardens, ensuring a steady supply of fresh produce.
  • Manage yearly budgets and the rotas and schedules of the other staff.
  • Collaborating with the estate's management team to plan and execute special events and projects.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in estate management with a focus on gardening and exterior maintenance.

  • Experience with sustainable gardening practices and a commitment to environmental conservation.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to garden and estate maintenance.
  • Driving licence and other certificates for using machinery such as tractors, RVs, and chainsaws.
  • Candidates must have excellent references and a proven track record of longevity in a similar role.
