About the role

The Department of War Studies seeks to appoint a Lecturer in East Asian Security to contribute to the Department’s teaching and research capacity. This is a five-year, fixed-term Education and Research position. Applicants will be expected to have a PhD.

The successful candidate will have an emerging track record in research dissemination and a clear research agenda. They will also be responsible for delivering high-quality, innovative undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and advancing understanding of East Asian security. They will work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and will be responsible for contributing to student success.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching in the department at both BA and MA levels. Modules could include ‘War and Strategy in East Asia’, as well as ‘Contemporary East Asian Security’ and ‘US-China Relations’, but candidates may be asked to teach in other areas. Candidates should have expertise in contemporary East Asia regional security and foreign policy issues.

The postholder will also undertake and publish high-quality research and play a role in the institutional and intellectual development of the Department. They will also undertake Departmental, School, Faculty and University administrative duties as required.
