Principal Engineer - Database

TransUnion is a major credit reference agency, offering specialist services in fraud, identity and risk management, automated decisioning and demographics. We support organisations across various sectors including finance, retail, telecommunications, utilities, gaming, government and insurance.

We’re looking for a Principal Engineer - Database to join our growing team. As a Principal Engineer, you’ll use your knowledge and enthusiasm of modern engineering practices to help develop TransUnion UK products towards the defined roadmap. You will assume the role of Technical Lead in a scrum team, making technical decisions and leading work. You will be developing in an agile manner, working closely with all members of the delivery team and its stakeholders, using modern development practices to ensure quality throughout the process.

Day to Day You’ll Be:

• Assuming the Development Technical/Team Leader role of scrum
• Writing well-structured, maintainable code
• Working with Senior Developers and Architects to design new products or enhancements/changes to existing products
• Ensuring development is carried out to the department policy, procedures and technical/process standards
• Involvement in Process Improvement
• Assisting and supporting junior colleagues as required
• Providing technical consultancy and knowledge support to the wider business
• Communicating effectively with stakeholders and internal teams to resolve reported issues as quickly as possible
• Adhering to technical constraints laid out in Architecture Definition

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Using SQL Server from 2008R2 to current version in an Enterprise environment
• Understanding of SQL Server fundamentals spanning all versions
• Strong knowledge of SQL (TSQL/Transact SQL)
• Performance tuning, query optimisation & indexing strategies
• Understanding of PowerShell and Automation
• Knowledge of cloud-based technologies
• Owning tasks and problems through the full project lifecycle
• A drive to learn; troubleshooting & researching potential fixes for issues
