The Senior Content Editor, under supervision of the Managing Editor, proofreads and edits a variety of documents according to established Firm policies and procedures. This position is responsible for correcting any grammatical, typographical, formatting, or compositional errors found in original copy and offers editorial support for the Global Marketing team as well as firmwide practices and departments. The Senior Content Editor observes the Firm’s established style guide, brand standards guide, and correspondence guidelines policy to ensure these standards are adhered to in all reviewed items. Additionally, the Senior Content Editor assists the Managing Editor in maintaining the Firm’s Publications Style Guide.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Edits documents for typographical, grammatical, formatting, or compositional errors, ensuring that material/text is clear and consistent, complete and credible, well-written, (grammatically correct/proper spelling), and in line with Firm guidelines.
- Proofreads a variety of documents, including, but not limited to, presentations, training materials, marketing collateral, print ads, financial documents, brochures, press releases, tax developments, business journal articles, newsletters, proposals, social media copy, email campaigns, and Firm intranet and website copy.
- Confers with the Managing Editor regarding changes made to original copy.
- Recognizes and marks problems with typefaces and fonts, awkward line and page breaks, improper punctuation and grammar, typos, misspellings, or inconsistent terminology and abbreviations.
- When necessary, reviews quality of final print or electronic product before release.
- Monitors deadlines and prioritises workload accordingly.
- Ensures consistency, accuracy, and readability of all corporate materials.
- Assists Managing Editor as needed.
- Prioritises and tracks schedules for multiple projects, meeting all required deadlines as established by the Managing Editor or Global Marketing team.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field required.
- Previous similar experience, including proofreading and/or copyediting experience.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and internet navigation/research.
- Experience with project management software, such as Asana, a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (spelling/grammar) required.
- Individual must have a mastery of the English language and understand how a sentence is read and spoken.
- Attention to detail and proficiency of the rules of punctuation.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills.
