About The Role We are seeking a visionary and strategic Head of Product User Research to lead our global insights initiatives at Happening. You will be responsible for directing user insights, market analysis, and industry benchmarking to inform and shape product strategies within our fast-growth sports betting and gaming ecosystem. Your leadership will be pivotal in translating data-driven research into innovative, consumer-centric solutions that foster growth, engagement, and competitive advantage across our platforms. In this role, you will: Define and communicate a compelling research strategy: Develop a comprehensive research roadmap aligned with organisational goals, supporting rapid growth and innovation in our product portfolio. Lead and mentor a high-performing research team: Build, inspire, and develop research talents across regions, fostering a collaborative, curious, and innovative culture. Drive impactful research initiatives: Oversee qualitative and quantitative research efforts—including user interviews, surveys, ethnography, and data analytics—to uncover user needs, behaviours, and market trends. Translate insights into strategic product recommendations: Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Brand and Marketing teams to ensure research findings inform product development, feature prioritisation, and market positioning. Influence product roadmaps with data-driven insights: Provide strategic input based on commercial and user data, industry benchmarks, and emerging trends to maximise user engagement and revenue growth. Champion a user centric approach: Advocate for deep customer understanding and ensure that insights continuously shape product and business strategies. Implement continuous improvement practices: Establish frameworks for ongoing feedback, testing, and validation to refine product features and optimize the user journey. Requirements Research expertise: 12+ years of experience in product research, including hands-on qualitative and quantitative methods, ideally within sports betting, gaming, entertainment, or related sectors. Leadership skills: Proven success building, leading, and mentoring multidisciplinary research teams across multiple regions. Market understanding: Deep familiarity with global sports betting and gaming markets, including regulatory landscapes, player behaviors, and industry innovations. Data translation ability: Skilled at transforming complex data and insights into clear, strategic recommendations that influence product development and growth initiatives. Exceptional communication: Ability to present complex findings compellingly to diverse stakeholders — from product teams to executive leadership. Curiosity and innovation: A passion for understanding user motivations, exploring new research methodologies, and discovering market opportunities through emerging technologies. Key Responsibilities Define and Lead Research Strategy & Vision Develop and execute a comprehensive global research strategy that aligns with company goals, supporting our expansion in sports betting and gaming. Foster a culture of exploration, curiosity, and continuous learning, ensuring research insights influence all product lifecycle stages. Conduct and Oversee Market & User Research Lead impactful research projects—including interviews, surveys, ethnography, data analysis—that unearth deep insights into user needs, motivations, and behaviors. Benchmark against competitors and industry standards to identify differentiation opportunities and innovation pathways. Collaborate with product managers and designers to turn research insights into actionable product features and improvements. Build and Develop a Global Research Team Recruit and mentor talent across regions, establishing best practices in research methodologies, data collection, and insight reporting. Promote knowledge sharing, industry awareness, and the adoption of emerging research tools and techniques. Influence Product Roadmaps & Strategy Drive research initiatives that support strategic product decisions, prioritizing high-impact projects to improve user engagement and business outcomes. Partner effectively with Product, Technology, and Marketing teams to embed insights into product roadmaps and company strategy. Champion a User-Centric and Data-Driven Culture Lead efforts to leverage AI, data science, and advanced analytics to deepen personalization and user understanding. Advocate for continuous iteration, testing, and validation, ensuring every product decision is rooted in customer insights. Drive Innovation & Continuous Improvement Implement frameworks for ongoing user feedback, usability testing, and market scans to keep the organisation ahead of trends. Encourage experimentation and data-driven decision making, creating innovative experiences that excite users and strengthen loyalty. Track and communicate the measurable impact of research efforts on business performance and user satisfaction.
