About The Role

At Node4, we\’re dedicated to delivering exceptional IT solutions that drive business success. As we continue to grow, we\’re looking for a skilled and motivated 2nd Line Network Support Engineer to join our expert team based in Derby.

As a 2nd Line Network Support Engineer, you\’ll provide advanced support across our customers’ networks, ensuring reliability, security, and high performance. Working closely with both customers and senior engineers, you\’ll be a key player in resolving escalated issues, implementing configurations, and maintaining critical network infrastructure.

You’ll also be part of a shared on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support as needed to ensure 24/7 availability for our key services and clients. (Additional on-call allowance provided.)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 2nd line technical support for network-related incidents and service requests.
• Diagnose and resolve faults involving routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Configure and troubleshoot hardware from Cisco, Juniper, and Fortinet.
• Support and maintain firewall and security infrastructure.
• Liaise with third-party vendors and internal teams to ensure timely resolution of issues.
• Maintain accurate documentation and update ticketing systems.
• Assist in project delivery and network upgrades as required.

What will you bring?

• Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Meraki network equipment.
• Strong understanding of firewall technologies and network security principles.
• Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in a support environment.
• Familiarity with networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF, VPNs, VLANs, NAT, etc.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Desirable:

• Relevant certifications (CCNA, JNCIA, NSE, etc.).
• Experience in managed service environments or ISPs.
• Exposure to monitoring tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.
• Exposure to monitoring tools ( eg Longic Monitor , Solarwids , PRTG etc ) and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.
• Knowledgeable and worked in an ITIL environment
