Job Overview

The purpose of the role is to plan, execute, and report on assigned Human Factors technical activities.

Other Duties Include:

  • Completes assigned tasks within agreed timescales, to the required level of quality and the satisfaction of the relevant task manager, team leader or project manager. This includes carrying out, under appropriate guidance; scientific, technical or data analysis, drawing technical conclusions and presenting HF content to a range of audiences.
  • Supports less experienced colleagues. For example, this may be in the form of supervision and guidance of new graduates or industrial placement students, providing on the job training and knowledge transfer.
  • Contributes to the planning, design, implementation and reporting of complex technical tasks under the supervision of the relevant task manager.
  • Identifies conflicts and escalates concerns and issues as appropriate to the relevant task manager, team leader or project manager.
  • Helps anticipate and solve routine and non-routine technical problems and suggests appropriate improvements to methods and analysis.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement suggesting appropriate improvements to processes and activities, considering a variety of innovative and creative solutions.
  • Develops and maintains technical and professional expertise and applies this appropriately to tasks.
  • Under guidance of more experienced team members, responds to queries, advises and updates customers, influencing when required.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in a relevant Human Factors subject (Psychology, Human Factors / Ergonomics, Bio-mechanics, or similar) or equivalent (e.g. other qualifications or relevant work experience).
  • A knowledge and appreciation of NATS and current and likely future UK ATM operations.
  • A basic understanding of the interactions within the organisation and how the department fits into the wider organisation.
  • Detailed knowledge of at least one key scientific, technical or analytical technique, data, or tools used in one or more Human Factors areas such as cognitive psychology, ergonomics, design.
  • General understanding of the nature and relevance of specialist techniques and methodologies when applied to studies and the ability to apply these to Human Factors.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows / Office environment, or equivalent and use of appropriate programming languages, databases, statistical packages and models.
  • Ability to produce well documented, high quality technical work, and appreciate when work is of a sufficient standard.
  • Good communication and presentation skills to peers and managers.
  • Good team working skills with an ability to appreciate different points of view.
