The Department of Biology at UNC-Chapel Hill is dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of new and existing knowledge in the broad discipline of Biology by maintaining a high-quality faculty who integrate cutting-edge research and student-focused teaching. Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit:
We have over 3,000 majors and intendent majors, and we enroll over 5,000 undergraduate students in our classes each year. Our average total annual expenditure exceeds $24 million, with nearly half of that coming from grant sponsored research. Our large research base spans many areas of biology and supports several outstanding graduate programs.
Position Summary:
Lab experiments, field studies and statistical modeling of thermal ecology of butterflies and climate change; lab experiments, molecular assays, and genomics of aphid-symbiont-pathogen interactions.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements: PhD in biology, or a related field.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience: Experience with thermal biology of insects, laboratory rearing of butterflies and other insects, and statistical modeling and data visualization with R; experience working with fungal entomopathogens and other insect-associated microbes.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements: Ability to collect butterflies and aphids in natural field settings.
