Main Duties/Responsibilities
As a nurse in a prison, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing holistic, person-centred care to people in prison. Due to the nature of prison healthcare, you will provide a hybrid of primary and secondary care services.
You will work in many areas, including:
- Minor injuries
- Long-term conditions
- Mental health
- Substance recovery
- Sexual health and blood-borne virus
- Mother and baby care
- End-of-life and palliative care
People in prison could be aged 16 to 86 years old. They come from all parts of society and often have multiple health conditions. You will have lots of opportunities to provide high-quality care to improve people's health and wellbeing and help to address health inequalities.
You will deliver healthcare interventions to support patients in coping with illness, treatment, and recovery by assessing their needs, writing care plans, and monitoring progress.
Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications
Essential
- Be a Registered Nurse.
- At least 2 years post-graduate experience.
- 6 months recent NHS experience within the last 3 years.
- You will need to pass an enhanced background check.
- Prison induction and PPT training.
